SOUTHERN IRELAND

Sunday 18th/Thursday 22nd June 2023

We were planning to visit Ireland in 2020 but covid stopped it, so we are planning to visit in 2023 visiting the  Beautiful South.

Sunday

A early morning start to Wales to catch the ferry to Rosslare.  Then a drive to our hotel,  the 4* Riverside Park Hotel, nestled on the banks of the River Slaney in the picturesque town of Enniscorthy. Overlooked by Enniscorthy Castle. The bedrooms have flat screen TV’s with multi channels, complimentary high speed Wi-Fi, hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board.

Leisure facilities include indoor pool, sauna & gym.

In Ireland swimming hats must be worn in swimming pools

A guided tour of Russborough is said to be Ireland's most beautiful Georgian houses. From fabulous interiors to a world class art and furnishings, as well as 200 acres with walks, gardens and original 18th century landscaping features.

Followed by a demonstration by Michael & his Irish Working Sheepdogs.

Tuesday

A visit to Cobh, previously known as Queenstown and most famous as the last port of call of the Titanic on its maiden voyage.  We will visit the 'Titanic Experience' which is situated in the original offices of The White Star Line & Heritage Centre

Wednesday

Train ride on Suir Valley Railway & Dunbrody  Famine Ship Experience

Waterford Suir Valley Railway brings the magic of rails golden age to life in Kilmeadan, Co Waterford. A heritage narrow gauge railway follows the 10km of the abandoned Waterford – Dungarvan railway line. Travelling at 15km per hour, experience the beauty of the Suir Valley from a partially opened carriage as you take in the panoramic views of the river and rolling farmland of Waterford and across the river to County Kilkenny.

The Dunbrody Famine Ship is centred on an authentic reproduction of an 1840’s emigrant vessel, it provides a world-class interpretation of the famine emigrant experience with  guided tour & exhibition. ‘The Dunbrody’ provides a unique insight into the bravery and fortitude with which Irish people faced up to a desperate situation.
