SOUTHWICK REVIVAL

We will make our way to Southwick near Portsmouth  & step back in time for their 1940's D-Day Revival.  Meet Winston Churchill in character. Dress to impress in your best 1940’s attire and join in the daily fashion competition to be in with a chance of winning the highly coveted “Southwick Revival Best Dressed”. Categories include best dressed male & female. Experience the sights and sounds of history with the Southwick D-Day Revival’s Military Vehicle Motorcade & Display. Explore an impressive collection of restored wartime vehicles in the heart of the village. Meet the owners and discover the stories behind the machines. Music fills the village with  Horndean marching band as it leads a vibrant procession through Southwick. From colourful parades to live musical performances by Portsmouth Military Wives Choir.

 

Entertainment continues throughout the day across the village.  Wander through an authentic living history encampment in Place Woods. Experience daily camp life, equipment and demonstrations from 1944.

There should be a heritage shuttle bus every 15 mins there & back. Join expert historians and special guests in the event marquee, places on first come basis.  Uncover powerful stories and insights from the wartime years.

The French Quarter, with the sights and smells of Paris in August 1944, including genuine french market traders, have a go Pétanque, Can Can dancers, French Food and French music.  Vintage Fun Fair. 

Old Ma’s tea room will have  drink and cake throughout as well as The Red Lion and Golden Lion who both have great food offerings and at the Squire’s Paddock you will find vintage food trucks and an ice cream seller

 

Timed tours of the famous Southwick House & Map Room  tour cost

extra £20 & must be pre-booked and sell out very extremely quickly.

Preserved in its original position and set for H-Hour, D-Day. Southwick House was the forward headquarters of SHEAF where D-Day was planned and launched in June 1944.

In the iconic D-Day Map Room, General Dwight D Eisenhower, surrounded by the Supreme Commanders, took the decision to first postpone and then to launch D-Day, with the words “OK – Let’s Go!”.

Map Room visitors will find themselves immersed in the atmosphere of the day as they learn about the enormous pressure Ike was under as he took that momentous decision. Also included is the Military Police Museum.  A free shuttle bus will run to take those booked to Southwick House.
